This is a typical house in a safe and relatively quiet, central location in Kathmandu. It is off the main road, in a green lane with relatives and house in the neighborhood. Yet we are in the center of Kathmandu with just 7 mints walk from tourist center of Thamel.
We are registered as homestay with which we are motivated to change the whole neighborhood to adopt eco friendly measures. In a way it is expanding to be like community homestay. We are trying to compost, gardening, ban plastics, rain water harvest, use solar power and more to bring positive changes through tourism. Even though slow, we are getting there.
This unit is the first floor of our house with independent, private entrance, private kitchen, bathroom and living area with kitchen. The unit is carpeted and furnished simply. Kitchen has basic utensils with fridge, toaster, rice cooker and boiler.
Kathmandu is one the developing city and there are lot of challenges like government supply of running water is not enough and power shortage causes blackout for up to 15 hrs in a day. We buy our running water in a tanker and supply to the bathrooms, toilets and sinks. We also have solar back up for lights and wifi works 24 hrs with the backup. Hot water in the shower works perfectly with solar power which will be available during the night as well.
